Erin Jones - Memory Illustration

  1. Pretty sure I've driven that road! Looks like the old North Cascades Highway. Trees are great, vegetation next to the road is great, colors and atmospheric perspective are also great. The only thing that is distracting to me is a scale issue. It seems like the road in the distant background should be narrower. The closest part of that distant road is still several turns further away from the road in the foreground, yet it appears to be as wide or wider than the foreground road.

  2. I really like the atmospheric perspective. I also really like the detail you put on the trees--how you did the trees is really nice. Seems simple, doesn't draw too much atttention, the first thing I look at is the car. Yikes! I wanna know the story :} The falling rocks off the edge is a nice touch. I like the smooth edges on the mountains but they seem a little blurry and not as finished. Really though it's only on that first mountain ridge on the left.
Maybe have the road in the background dimmed a little more, especially the lighter outline of it. Also, if you punch the shadows and things on the red car, that'd be sweet!
    Great piece!

  3. This is awseom! And way to go on atmospheric perspective!! Also loving the outline around the trees, and the way you composed the image. The red on the car draws the eye right to it! The only thing i'd suggest is also what Greg said about the road in the background, its looking a little like a river right now but if you narrow it up and maybe add a little bit of shadow beneath it that would be fabulous. Great work!

  4. The trees' texture is my favorite part, also good job in using atmospheric perspective and the use of color. I really cant think of anything to add except of course you want to illustrate more of a story like maybe adding something coming out of the car's window? or a highway sign?

  5. I love the composition of this piece! Such a unique perspective. However, I don't really understand where your light source is coming from. I get it has to be coming from the yellow cliffs in the background, but it's all too hazy to quite understand. Also, if that's the case is that supposed to be rim-lighting on the pine trees or a stylistic choice? Anyways, your trees are lovely and I am digging the texture. I think if you pushed more darker values into the piece it would give it more dimension, because right now it feels a little flat - especially the trees in the foreground (and maybe adding a little detail in the background hills would be nice). But this is a great narrative piece; gives the viewer anxiety to know what's going to happen next!
